Privacy & Security as a Parent – Helping Kids & Teens
If you’re like me, you struggle with how to keep your child(ren) safe online. We see what can go wrong from our practices, from the media, and even through our own errors while using technology.
So how do we even begin to know how to keep our young ones safe when they’re at a stage where they lack insight as to the future effects of their digital imprint, or the imminent threats that lurk based on their shared photo’s, Instagram posts, and GPS tracking apps?
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada states on their website:
“It can be tough raising kids in a digital environment. Many of them use the Internet effortlessly, and easily adapt to new devices that connect to it. For many of us, these tools have become a routine part of our children’s lives, as they use them to chat, surf, post, play and learn. The Internet has become one of the most powerful tools they have to connect with friends and make new ones.
Many kids, however, don’t fully understand the impact that some online activities may have on their privacy.”
Stay safe out there.
